TO ALL OPFFA LOCALS
In case you missed our webinar earlier this week I wanted to let you know that it is now available for viewing online!
On December 6, 2018, Ontario Bill 57 was passed into law and given Royal Assent.
This bill served to change 40 pieces of legislation including the Fire Prevention and Protection Act; changing the Interest Arbitration system for fire fighters and affecting our constitution with respect to those engaged in secondary employment, “two-hatting”.
This government bill was rammed through session with no meaningful consultation with fire fighters.  It has taken our board of arbitration to a single arbitrator and now imposed new criteria that will heavily favour employers.
The OPFFA, working with several partners including the IAFF, legal counsel and advocates, fought the bill to no avail.
Watch and listen to our post-vote summary of Bill 57, a webinar for OPFFA members that was presented on December 11, 2018.
